The Kirby Police Department will be offering the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events or C.R.A.S.E. course to the public. C.R.A.S.E. was designed and built on an “avoid, deny and defend” strategy developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University in 2004. It provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills. This class is open to the public and all businesses and organizations are encouraged to attend. The class is approximately four hours long and will be held at City Hall on Wednesday September 11, 2019. Class starts at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in attending, email your name, address and telephone number to Sgt. Michael Alonzo at firstname.lastname@example.org. The class will be limited to 20 students so register early. This class is intended for an adult audience and some of the material may not be appropriate for children, therefore anyone in attendance must be at least 18 years of age.
The City of Kirby’s Public Works Water Division is looking for 15 volunteers (only homes built after 1982) to obtain a water sample for the TCEQ’s Lead and Copper Rule. The sample bottle will be dropped off along with instructions and a form on August 29th and will be picked up along with the form on August 30th at 10am. The Lead and Copper Rule protects public health by minimizing lead and copper levels in drinking water, primarily by reducing corrosion of plumbing materials. This rule applies to all community water systems and non-transient non-community water systems. City of Kirby’s Public Works Department is dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service and quality municipal services for our residents. For questions please call or email Gilbert Salas Director of Public Works at (210) 666-0653 ext. 111 or Gsalas@cityofkirby.org.
